Oy. I always feel that they need a good number tumbles as otherwise most of the romance is so ridiculous that without *insane* sexual chemistry there would be no reason for a relationship.

Exactly! I don’t need non-stop sex, but there better be something that demonstrates the depth of feeling between the couple. Otherwise, what is the point.

I just finished Midnight Pleasures With a Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath. The most recent Goodreads reviewer dinged it for having too many “smexy parts.”

This is amazing to me, especially since Heath is probably one of the tamer romance authors out there. No explicit descriptions of bodies or acts. This book only had two extended sex scenes. There were a few long kisses and allusions to sex, but nothing that got in the way of the story. I’d say this is an acceptable amount of sex. It’s enough to establish the relationship and show the connection between the characters.

As is probably obvious from my reviews, I love good hot erotic sex in romance novels. I also understand that there is a reason why Amish romance is such a popular subgenre. The courtship is key to buying into a couple and wanting them to end up together. For me, I like that courtship to end in sexy consummation and not just earnest hand holding.

Why do you read romances? Sex: the more the better?

Like, it’s all well and good to stockpile supplies but that is only going to last you so long and assumes that relatively normal life will return before your supplies run out. This is short sighted.

What these people fail to grasp is that you need to control your own means of production. Don’t just buy a bunch of booze with the hope of being able to barter it. Set up your own distillery!

And while you’re at it, buy some arable land with a fresh water source and learn farming and animal husbandry. What are your kids and grand kids going to do when your stockpile runs out?

I’m really feeling the new fruit and vegetable themed reusable bags at Whole Foods. I have Kale and Sweet Potato lunch bags and just bought the Grapefruit shopping bag.

Meet Petunia, our new foster mama and her six adorable and talented kittens! She was rescued by the Langley Animal Protection Society, an exceptional no-kill animal shelter in British Columbia, and we are fostering them for the next 8 - 10 weeks. Once they are big enough, all seven will be spayed and neutered, then return to LAPS to find their forever homes. I met my friend for drinks and one of the bartenders was fucking hot. Like distractingly good looking. Huge biceps, pretty face, just unf. I felt bad for/was super jealous of my friend since he sat facing the bartender’s station. Whereas I only got glimpses in the mirror or when he was dropping off food on my side of the bar.

It got so bad that to make ourselves feel better, we decided he must live in a terrible apartment in Allston with some bros from college.

This book!!! It’s one of my favorite books, one of the best romance novels I’ve ever read. So it’s getting it’s own post. Sarah Maclean is an awesome new voice in romances. Fresh, fun, smart writing and you should totally check out her other books. But this one, for me, is special.

This book makes me just want to squee I love it so much. It is perfect for many reasons.

There’s a rake! A legit rake who is afraid to love and only has shallow relationships.
There is a quiet but smart lady who takes control of her sexuality
The chemistry between them is sooooooooo hot.
Which leads to sex that burns up the page

Our lady is Callie (aka Calpurnia). She has been playing by the rules of society her whole life. Now 28, unmarried and with an unfortunate wardrobe (thanks, mom), she is tired of being a paragon of virtue and wants a little adventure. Being a practical person, she makes a list of unladylike activities that she wants to experience. Number one on the list is getting a kiss from the rakiest of rakes, Gabriel St John, Marquess of Ralston.

Gabriel isn’t quite sure what to make of Callie when she visits him in the middle of the night. He knows of her pristine reputation and decides to ask for her help in return for a kiss. See, Gabriel’s mother created a huge scandal when he was 10 by running away to Italy. Now his fiesty Italian half-sister is his responsibility and she needs to be introduced to society.
